Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Helping to Ensure Energy and Homeland Security

LLNL is developing innovative science and technology solutions that secure energy supply, ensure infrastructure reliability, and deliver resilience to climate change. Laboratory scientists and engineers are working to develop technologies in these critical national security areas:

  • Energy Security—Increase security and supply of U.S. energy resources, while minimizing environmental impacts and reducing costs
  • Cyber and Infrastructure Resilience—Enhance the security and resiliency of civilian networks and critical infrastructure to cyber and physical threats

Great People

Rebecca Nikolic
Global Security

Livermore helps protect our borders by developing technology to detect the entry of illicit special nuclear materials (uranium and plutonium isotopes). Rebecca Nikolic recently led a team that developed miniaturized solid-state neutron detectors that are far more efficient and compact than existing devices.
